Student Welfare Officer - Manchester

The School of Social Sciences has an established welfare office and this new post is intended to support its activity. The post will take special responsibility for induction, progress and close pastoral support for post-graduate and undergraduate students across the School of Social Sciences. Whilst this will be the primary focus of the role, the post holder will also be expected to contribute to a range of activities supporting all students and enhancing the student experience. The School of Social Sciences is home to around 4,000 undergraduate students and 1,000 post-graduate students, with both cohorts having a high proportion of overseas students.

You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a thorough understanding and sensitivity to cultural and diversity issues. You will possess excellent organisational skills with attention to detail and accuracy and have the ability to deal with complex situations and provide creative solutions. You will be self-motivated with a collegiate and outcomes-oriented approach to work and be able to work both independently and as part of a team. In addition, you will have experience of initiating and developing projects and new initiatives and have a thorough understanding of academic and pastoral support in higher education. Most of all, you will be able to handle complex and acute student needs and respond sympathetically.
