Group Activity volunteer - Glasgow

Supported Youth Housing Project is a housing support service for young people aged 16-25 years old who are homeless or threatened with homelessness. We support young people with a wide range of support needs including budgeting, developing independent living skills, addiction, health and many others that could have an impact on tenancy sustainment.

Main tasks

  • Supporting young people and at times their children in a group setting such as social or educational activities
  • Assisting in finding new and relevant activities that contribute to young people’s health, inclusion, and self-worth
  • To take part in group work meetings
  • To source nearby anemities and identify appropriate resources
  • To communicate and interact with young people, to establish non-judgemental and supportive relationships
  • To understand and maintain boundaries
  • To ensure voluntary activities are undertaken in line with ’ confidentiality policy

Required skills, qualities and experience
No formal qualifications are required however Volunteer Mentors would require:

  • A desire to work with young people
  • Experience working with children
  • Ability to contribute as part of a team
  • Understanding and commitment to working in a way that recognises values and diversity
  • Effective communication skills and non-judgemental approach

Where and when will volunteering take place
The volunteer opportunity be a mixture of home-working, within Regional Office, and the community. At least a half day per week

Commitment required
To get the most out of the role we hope you can commit at least half a day each week for at least six months.

Training and support provided
All relevant training will be provided, including a named person to provide support. You will also have the opportunity to access other training as part of personal development.

Volunteers should be over 18 years old as young people who are identified as requiring/wishing a mentor will be aged between 8 – 14 years old and will be looked after at home.

All agreed out-of-pocket expenses will be provided.

Parking is available at the office and there is access to public transport links nearby.

Selection Procedure
Application form, interview, references and PVG disclosure.
