The Programme Quality Team is at the centre of CIUK's new strategy for the delivery of high quality and impactful programming within CARE. The team delivers high quality technical assistance to CARE offices around the world in the areas of Women's Economic Empowerment, Inclusive Governance, Emergency Shelter and Gender and Resilience.The team also provides thought leadership, learning as well as a global perspective to CARE programmes.
The Emergency Shelter Researcher will work as part of the CIUK Emergency Shelter Team but also in close collaboration with colleagues at the Centre for Development and Emergency Practice (CENDEP) at Oxford Brookes University and their partners to lead research and learning activities into self-recovery and the promotion of safer building after disasters for .
S/he will lead reviews, primary and secondary research, prepare articles, reports and presentations and continue the development of good-practice guidelines and tools for testing in the field. Other responsibilities include attending all relevant project meetings, workshops and conferences and supporting the organisation of these events where CARE is leading. The post-holder will play a key role in shaping the project and its delivery and, in addition to undertaking significant portions of the work themselves, will manage the delivery of other portions of the work by consultants or other CARE staff.
The researcher will be expected to represent CIUK and the Emergency Shelter Team to internal and external audiences in the presentation of the work and will represent CARE as co-leading agency of the Global Shelter Cluster's Promoting Safer Building Working Group.
The post-holder will also provide expertise and support to other CIUK research and learning projects and will, at times, provide operational assistance to CARE Country Offices undertaking emergency responses, either remotely or in-country.
You are a passionate and experienced international development worker with some experience in humanitarian programming in emergency contexts and a strong understanding of humanitarian response and underlying principles, including some knowledge of shelter programming. You have the ability to produce high-quality research, written in well and clearly in plain English. You have strong networking and collaborative skills and are able to work independently and be self-motivated.
